Enrico Scavino Tasting Notes

Here's a quick outburst of brief tasting notes for some of Enrico Scavino's releases that will come stateside soon. Brilliant stuff. The evolution in style is more about nuance than more density or size. They are doing an amazing job expressing a variety of very specific terroirs in a thoughtful way. The 2007 Baroli will age beautifully.

Dolcetto d'Alba
(vignolo bric del fiasc)
Blueberry preserves and plum stones. Thyme flowers on the nose. 89 points.

2010 Barbera d'Alba
(bric del Fiasc, bricco Malescoto)
Very long, juicy mulberries, tiny bit of clove. Sweet fruit. 90 points.

2008 Langhe Nebbiolo
(Bricco Marescoto and Annuziata)
Marle soils, more velvety tannins.
1 year old oak
Spicy, floral slightly briary dried fruit. 90 points

2007 Baroli

2007 Barolo (Rocche, Mariondino, Falletto and Terlo) Spicy, bright, charming. Broad tannins. Rose bush and dried red fruits. 92 points.

Carobric (Rocche C Falletto, Cannubi, Bric del Fiasc) Generous tannins, fresh but powerful. Anise and darker fruit. 93+ points.

Bricco Ambrogio
Very mineral. Copper black plum. Bilberries. Very fine. 96 points.

Monvigliero (some chalk in soil)
Very talcy and floral. Feminine and bright fruit. 94+ points.

Cannubi
Has it all. Very fine silty tannins. Rose petal fruit, clove, orange peel, anise. Super long. 98 points.

Bric del Fiasc
Thick sweet tannins, darker, smoky fruit. Leathery and animal. Masculine. 95 points.

2005 Riserva
Rocche dell'Annuziata
Cool and spicy. Very complex and fresh. Feel alcohol less. 96 points.
